Our Center is focused on the social and psychobiological contributions to affective style.
Center for Neuroscience
Professor Davidson researches human cognitive and affective neuroscience with Functional Neuroimaging. The broad goals of this research are to understand a) how the brain implements emotion in normal individuals and b) the brain mechanisms associated with disorders of emotion in patients with affective and anxiety disorders.
Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention: A chief goal of this research is to determine whether stimuli and events known to enhance smoking motivation also influence a physiological variable with the potential to index approach motivation. Results indicated that EEG asymmetry was increased by smoking anticipation and that smoking itself reduced EEG asymmetry. Results also suggested that smoking anticipation increased overall (bihemispheric) EEG activation. Please see the following article for additional information: Zinser, M. C., Fiore, M. HealthEmotions Research Institute: The Health Emotions Research Institute investigates the scientific basis for how a person's state of mind influences their health. Currently, Professor Davidson is the Principal Investigator on the following Institute projects:

- Effects of Social Contact on Modulating Responses to Negative Emotionally-Provoking Events

NIMH Training Program in Emotion Research
This program trains students at both the pre- and post-doctoral levels in emotion research. Professor Davidson directs the program which is funded by an NIMH training grant.
Wisconsin Symposium on Emotion: The Wisconsin Symposia on Emotion are sponsored by the HealthEmotions Research Institute. The annual two-day meetings are designed to disseminate the most advanced knowledge in key areas in affective neuroscience to increase attendees' understanding of how the brain processes emotion, how the neurobiological substrates of emotion processing influence otherphysiological systems in the body, and most importantly, the implications for treating disease and improving health and resilience.
